Abortion Lobby Shows Its Hand: How Far It’ll Go to Protect Roe (Locked in an Endless Battle)

As you are probably aware, New York recently enacted a law that legalizes the killing of the preborn children up to birth in many cases. It is the eighth state in the U.S. to do so.

Preborn babies in New York have long had an uphill battle to make it out of the womb alive. New York City is notorious for being a place where more African American babies are aborted than born. Now with this new law, the lives of the unborn have been devalued even more.

To put it in perspective, look no further than recent events in Queens, NY. Following the passage of the deceptively named Reproductive Health Act, the district attorney dropped a second-degree murder charge against a man who allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend to death. The attack also killed her 14-week preborn child.

But now, the alleged killer is no longer on the line for two deaths. Why? Because the New York law effectively denies unborn children their human rights. Apparently, the right to life is now only granted once the baby has exited the magical birth canal.

What motivated these legislators to commit this travesty?

Erica Sackin, Senior Director of Communications for Planned Parenthood, revealed the answer to that question on a recent episode of Fox News @ Night with Shannon Bream.

“These bills aren’t about [late-term abortions]. What the bills do is, in New York or Rhode Island, it says if Roe v. Wade falls…which as we’ve seen is more and more likely, women will still be able to access abortion.”

Allow me to translate: Killing babies—even ones that can survive outside of the womb—doesn’t really matter. Everyone should just ignore that inconvenient fact. All that matters is protecting Roe v. Wade.

The more desperate abortion activists get, the more they show their hand. They are willing to sacrifice children up until the moment of birth (and even after birth if some government officials had their way!) to protect Roe v. Wade.

If that doesn’t give you chills, I don’t know what will.

Granted, for many in the pro-life movement, including Alliance Defending Freedom, overturning Roe is critical.

And it’s not something that will happen overnight.

That’s why, ever since the Supreme Court created a constitutional right to abortion in 1973, abortion activists and the pro-life movement have been locked in an endless legal debate over everything related to abortion. Informed consent, safety regulations, ultrasounds, parental notification, fetal pain, first trimester abortions, webcam abortions, second trimester abortions, fetal viability, partial-birth abortions, freedom of conscience for doctors and nurses, pro-life speech, insurance plans and abortion-inducing drugs, taxpayer-funded abortions… and the list goes on and on.

It’s a lot—I know. But each of these battles serves a purpose. Every little step, every crack in abortion’s legal armor, is a step in the right direction—and a step we must take.

What the abortion lobby fails to realize is their recent abortion extremism has a good chance to get us there even faster.

In fact, recent events have re-energized many in the pro-life camp. Bills like New York’s, and those proposed in Virginia, go far beyond what Roe v. Wade was ever supposed to do. And they are out of step with what many in America think about abortion.

The reality is that 75 percent of U.S. adults oppose abortion after the first three months of pregnancy! That’s consistent with the rest of the world, too. Indeed, 75 percent of countries that allow elective abortion only permit them in the first trimester. And worldwide, only 92 percent of countries allow these first trimester abortions at all!

All this abortion extremism does is force us to examine our own principles even more. It forces the tough conversations that many “pro-choice” people don’t really want to have.

After all, the pro-abortion argument depends upon ignoring the real issue at stake—babies’ lives. That’s why for years abortion activists have parroted lines like “a woman’s right to choose” and “my body, my choice.”

I understand the appeal—these lies are easier on the conscience than the truth.

Because the truth is, abortion deals specifically with a baby’s body. It’s the baby’s body that is starved to death in a chemical abortion. It’s the baby’s body that is ripped apart by a vacuum or bone-crushing tools. And it’s the baby’s body that is injected with poison designed to kill.

Is this really what the American public wants? No one in their right mind wants to kill babies. But that’s what our society is doing.

And now we have to consider—all of us who are watching these events unfold—that this is human life on the line. And if a life is a life—doesn’t it deserve protection at any stage?

This is why Roe v. Wade must be overturned. And this is why, in a perfect world, abortion wouldn’t have to be illegal—it would be unthinkable.
