Don’t give up hope: That’s what a pro-life legal organization is advising people in the least protective states for life.

According to its annual Defending Life report, Americans United for Life (AUL) is reporting on the states that are an enemy or an ally to pro-lifers who live there, pay taxes, and vote.

“The most important thing you can do,” says Tom Shakely of AUL, “if you’re in a state like Hawaii or Washington, which has been unfortunately at the bottom of our list for many years now due to a variety of life-hostile laws and policies, it’s important to first not feel discouraged, to realize the state of any particular law is not a reflection of the true feeling of the people in that place.”

The ten least protective states for life as follows:

• (50) Washington
• (49) California
• (48) Vermont
• (47) New Jersey
• (46) Hawaii
• (45) Oregon
• (44) Nevada
• (43) New York
• (42) Connecticut
• (41) Massachusetts

Shakely adds there are a lot of states that on the borderline, and advocates and activists in the those states, and lawmakers, too, could use the input and from those who are currently living with that law.

“So getting out there and connecting with folks is really what matters,” he says, “making those relationships happen so that where if things are bad that we can learn from where they are good and ultimately restore life affirming law and policy.”

This is the 14th year for the Defending Life, also known as “America’s Playbook for Life.”

The ten most protective states for life are
• (1) Arizona
• (2) Arkansas
• (3) Louisiana
• (4) Oklahoma
• (5) Kansas
• (6) South Dakota
• (7) Mississippi
• (8) Georgia
• (9) Michigan
• (10) Nebraska
