The public can expect to hear a lot more in coming weeks about the state of Texas dropping Planned Parenthood from its Medicaid program.

The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals recently reversed a district court’s decision that prevented Texas from eliminating Planned Parenthood from the Medicaid program.

Speaking on the “Washington Watch with Tony Perkins” radio program, Attorney General Ken Paxton called the ruling a big win for taxpayers.

“We defunded Parenthood to the tune of about $3.4 million,” Paxton said. “We had videos showing they clearly violated medical and ethical standards, and because of that they should not be qualified to get Medicaid funds.”

Those videos are part of the undercover investigation by the Center for Medical Progress that allegedly showed Planned Parenthood involved in the sale of aborted baby body parts.

The Texas Attorney General’s office also alleges Planned Parenthood made false statements to law enforcement.

“The 5th Circuit sent it back to a Judge Sparks in Austin, who is a federal district judge, and basically said you applied the wrong standard,” Paxton continued. “So he has a chance to issue another decision. We’ll see what he does. We’re hopeful he’ll get this right.”

Paxton predicts the case will return to the 5th Circuit based on how Judge Sparks rules. Then it’s on to the U.S. Supreme Court, he said.
