Michael W. ChapmanWhile liberals express outrage over the fact that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh drank beer — reportedly sometimes to excess — in high school and college, they and the leftist media have largely ignored the extensive partying of former President Barack Obama, who has confessed to heavy pot smoking and cocaine use in high school and college.

Given the drinking limits being set retroactively for Kavanaugh by his leftist critics and arguments therefrom that he is not suited for the high court, it is reasonable to conclude that Barack Obama’s extensive illegal drug use would preclude him from a seat on the Supreme Court, or on any federal bench.

Revelations of Obama’s partying and drug use are presented in the book Dreams From My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance by  Barack Obama and in the New York Times bestseller Rising Star: The Making of Barack Obama by Pulitzer Prize-winning author David J. Garrow.

Below are excerpts from each book that reference the drug use by Obama and, in a few cases, by his friends, the people in his social circle during high school and college. The emphasis was added where illegal drug use is specifically mentioned.

From Dreams From My Father by Barack Obama:

“I [Obama] blew a few smoke rings, remembering those years [in high school]. Pot had helped, and booze; maybe a little blow [cocaine] when you could afford it. Not smack, though – Micky, my potential initiator, had been just a little too eager for me to go through with that…. He had pulled out the needle and the tubing, and I’d looked at him standing there, surrounded by big slabs of salami and roast beef, and right then an image popped into my head of an air bubble, shiny and round like a pearl, rolling quietly through a vein and stopping my heart.”

“Junkie. Pothead. That’s where I’d been headed: the final, fatal role of the young would-be black man. Except the highs hadn’t been about that, me trying to prove what a down brother I was. Not by then, anyway. I [Obama] got high for just the opposite effect, something that could push questions of who I was out of my mind, something that could flatten out the landscape of my heart, blur the edges of my memory.”

“I had discovered that it didn’t make any difference whether you smoked reefer in the white classmate’s sparkling new van, or in the dorm room of some brother you’d met down at the gym….”

“… That’s what Pablo had lacked, mostly, not having his driver’s license that day, a cop with nothing better to do than to check the trunk of his car. Or Bruce, not finding his way back from too many bad acid trips and winding up in a funny farm.”

“’You know exactly what I mean [said Obama’s mother]. One of your friends [Pablo] was just arrested for drug possession [cocaine]. Your grades are slipping. You haven’t even started on your college applications.”

“… The swagger that carries me into a classroom drunk or high, knowing that my teachers will smell beer or reefer on my breath, just daring them to say something.”

“Yet cocaine had zero presence among the Choom Gang, and multiple friends firmly say that they never set eyes on it up through 1979. But at least one Choomer knew for sure that ‘Barry [Sotero/Obama] started to experiment with cocaine.’ While Topt recalled that ‘the police were really, really, really relaxed’ regarding pakololo [marijuana], that was not the case with harder drugs, and in Obama’s own later telling, his mother asks him about his friend ‘Pablo,’ who ‘was just arrested for drug possession’ involving cocaine.”

“Marijuana was a regular though perhaps not nightly relaxant for Hasan [Chandoo] and Barry [Obama]. ‘I got stoned with him [Obama] many times,’ Margot acknowledged when asked about the 1980-81 [college] year. And, on a less regular basis, ‘we did occasionally snort cocaine’ at Glenarm [apartment] as well, although it was ‘not a routine part’ of their lives at the time.”

“Obama also realized that the beer drinking, pot smoking, and cocaine snorting that Oxy [Occidental College], like Punahou, offered him, and that had cemented his reputation as ’a hard-core party animal’ to some friends, was incompatible with any self-transformation into a more serious student and person.”

“… to Alex, Barack made no mention of his reintroduction to cocaine.”

“Hasan was ‘absolutely’ the driving force, not Sohale or Imad, and while that trio was ‘doing lots of cocaine,’ Barack ‘did not do as much as they did.’ Indeed, Barack did ‘a lot less of everything, like for every five lines [of cocaine] that somebody did, he would have done half ….”

Obama writing:  “‘He’s [Bobby’s] making a comfortable living running a concession at a local high-school, and supplements his income with cash from a few big cocaine deals he was involved with last year’….”

“… otherwise the weekend cocaine parties extended right up through the spring and summer of 1985 – ‘nonstop—without a doubt – continuous,’ Genevieve replied when asked about that time.”

“… Barack said he had used cocaine ‘a few times’ and ‘primarily smoked pot’ during high school and his first two years of college.”
