‘Science Is On Our Side,’ Says Pro-Lifer

An unnamed university professor in California has been under fire since his slide examining the parallels between cancer and a preborn baby went viral on social media.

The lecturer for an upper-level biology course at the University of California-San Diego School of Medicine is now backtracking his assertion that an preborn child is a “legitimate parasite” invading its mother, according to LifeNews. He claims he was not trying to indoctrinate students with the notion that preborn babies are cancers, but some critics are not buying it.

“Science is on our side as pro-lifers,” asserts Patrina Mosley, director of life, culture, and women’s advocacy at the Family Research Council (FRC). “We have to continue to use that to make our arguments and to encourage people to stand and be bold and courageous on this issue, because facts are on our side, so we have nothing to be discouraged or afraid about.”

Those critical of the comparison argue that it dehumanizes preborn children. Mosley believes people should withhold judgment right now.

“We don’t have enough facts or evidence at this point to really determine what should be done next,” she submits. “I think what needs to happen is just more of the facts and the stories need to come out about what actually happened in his classroom.”

In the professor’s defense, UC-San Diego states, “The slide presents common, widely accepted scientific concepts and in no way represents a political statement.”
