The newly renamed “Scouts BSA” is in the news again – this time amid reports that both condoms and alcohol will be available at next year’s World Scout Jamboree.

For the first time in more than 50 years, the Jamboree – an event held every four years – will occur on American soil. Under the theme “Unlock a New World,” the 2019 Jamboree will be held in West Virginia. And it will be a “new world” for the American contingent, which for years had stood almost alone as an organization holding to its moral core despite relentless attacks from LGBT activists and other “progressives.” But eventually they gave in – and according to an Eagle Scout and former Scoutmaster, the organization’s fall has been spectacularly sudden and deep.

Florida attorney John Stemberger says leaders of the newly renamed “Scouts BSA”  are driving a stake through the heart of that moral health.

“They have announced a policy that was developed after the last World Jamboree in Japan [in 2015] that requires them to make condoms ‘readily available and accessible’ at the World Jamboree in West Virginia,” he tells OneNewsNow.

According to The Washington Times, that policy is found in the handbook of the World Organization of Scouting Movement. The World Jamboree is an official event of that movement – and the co-hosts (Boy Scouts USA, Scouts Canada, and Scouts Association of Mexico) are working to implement the requirements for the 2019 observance.

Stemberger, who is also president of the Florida Family Policy Council, told the Times that churches planning to charter Boy Scout troops should be deeply disturbed by this development, particularly because children as young as 14 from all over the world will be at the Jamboree:

“These policies present a clear youth protection problem that the BSA absolutely refuses to recognize. The fact that they are requiring that condoms be ‘readily accessible’ and are communicating this to everyone – including youth participants – shows that the BSA is both anticipating and facilitating sexual conduct between minors at this event. These policies are both outrageous and completely irresponsible.”

In a press release, Stemberger also points out that World Jamboree guidelines also allow for consumption of alcohol in “confined areas” during the 12-day camping event. “With the addition of condoms and alcohol,” he says, “the World Jamboree is starting to sound more like a 1960s Woodstock festival rather than a campout that parents would want to send their children to.”

For years Stemberger supported the Scouts, but laments that “Scouting is no longer the fraternal, camping, turning-boys-into-men [organization]. It’s becoming more of a genderless youth group with neckerchiefs.”

He is now helping manage an alternative to the Boy Scouts: Trail Life USA, a Christian-based program that is picking up the task of turning boys into men – Christian men.
