Planned Parenthood really doesn’t need the flow of federal tax dollars into its coffers. That’s the view of an expert who keeps the abortion giant under a microscope.

In its 2016-2017 report, Planned Parenthood reported an income of $1.46 billion; in 2017-2018, that number jumped to $1.67 billion – $563.8 million of which came from the federal government. Planned Parenthood also spent the year claiming Congress was trying to defund them, according to Jim Sedlak of the American Life League.

“Of course, we all know that Planned Parenthood was out there screaming The sky is falling! The sky is falling! – and so its donors got tricked by that and they gave them $630.8 million,” he says, citing PP’s own reported numbers for the last fiscal year. “So it’s absolutely outrageous how much money Planned Parenthood brought in – and the fact is, they didn’t need it.”

Sedlak, Jim (American Life League)In fact, the abortion chain’s most recent annual report shows it made a profit of $244.8 million after all the bills were paid. It also did a good deal more abortions (more than 332,000) – its biggest single cash cow – in 2017 than in 2016. Some other services, Sedlak points out, continued to decline. For example, he cites PAP tests, which were down – but also tests for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), which were up. The number of abortion clients was roughly the same as the previous two years.

Sedlak concludes by saying the report adds fuel to the debate to defund the organization and let it stand on its own legs instead of being pumped up by the federal funds.
