WASHINGTON, DC – Former President Barack Obama received a human rights award Wednesday despite his long record of fighting against human rights for the unborn.

The Hill reports Obama was presented with the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Ripple of Hope award during a gala in Manhattan with Kennedy’s daughter, Kerry Kennedy.

“I’m not sure if you’ve heard, but I’ve been on this hope kick for a while now,” Obama joked when he received the award. “Even ran a couple of campaigns on it.”

He also seemed to take aim at President Donald Trump and other conservative leaders, though he did not mention them by name.

“When our leaders are content on making up whatever facts they want, a lot of people have begun to doubt the notion of common ground,” he said. “Bobby Kennedy’s life reminds us to reject such cynicism.

“If we summon our best selves, we can inspire others to do the same,” Obama continued. “It’s easy to succumb to cynicism, the notion that hope is a fool’s game.”

The award appears to be given primarily to pro-abortion Democrats. The AP reports Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, Bono, Joe Biden, George Clooney and Robert De Niro are among the previous recipients.

Obama arguably was the most pro-abortion president in U.S. history.

During his first week in office, Obama made it clear that he would support abortion when he made it a priority to overturn the Mexico City Policy. The policy, which Trump reinstated and later expanded, prohibits taxpayer funding to international aid groups that promote or provide abortions.

He went on to weaken conscience protections for health care workers and to appoint two pro-abortion U.S. Supreme Court justices.

His legacy legislation, Obamacare, has been damaging to religious individuals and unborn babies alike. Despite promises that the health care law would not fund abortions, a Government Accountability Office report found massive new public funding of abortion in the president’s healthcare law.

Under Obama, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services also tried to force religious employers to pay for forms of birth control that may cause abortions as part of their employee health care plans. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled against HHS, sparing the religious individuals from being forced to pay for abortions.

Obama and his administration also fought to protect the abortion giant Planned Parenthood amid numerous scandals. After an undercover investigation revealed that Planned Parenthood may be illegally selling aborted baby parts, many state and federal legislators moved to defund the abortion group. But the Obama administration blocked the efforts, vetoing a federal defunding bill and enacting a rule that prohibited states from defunding the abortion chain.

Near the end of his time in office, the Obama administration refused to act against California, which is forcing churches to pay for abortions through their employee health care plans in violation of the Weldon Amendment.

Obama once said, “God bless Planned Parenthood” at a speech for the abortion group in 2013. Then in 2014, he told abortion activists that they are “doing God’s work.” Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion chain in America. It destroys the lives and rights of about 320,000 unborn babies every year.
