Democrats are revealing their true nature even after President Donald Trump offered them an amnesty deal, says a longtime conservative activist.
Trump surprised many of his core supporters when he offered liberal Democrats an amnesty plan for an estimated 1.8 million illegal aliens in exchange for funding a border wall and changes to legal immigration laws that are popular with immigration watchdog groups.
Political observers had expected Trump to offer a deal on DACA recipients, who number about 700,000, but the White House plan announced in late January offered a “path to citizenship” for 1.8 million so-called Dreamers, who include those not covered by the Obama-era DACA rule.
Gary Bauer of the Campaign for Working Families says it appears Democrats are unwilling to budge on tougher immigration measures such as ending chain migration and the visa lottery.
“And if they don’t that,” he says, “then the Dreamers are going to still be in difficulty. And it won’t be because of the president, it will be because of the liberals in the Congress.”
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, meanwhile, set a House record on Tuesday for an eight-hour marathon speech in which she demanded the House vote on an immigration bill for amnesty for “Dreamers.”
Her record-setting speech – predictably lauded by the liberal media – was followed by Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas), who reminded his colleagues that Trump had offered an amnesty deal to Democrats during his State of the Union address.
“He offered a fair compromise,” said Hensargling,” and instead the Minority Leader slapped his hand and called it ‘insulting.’ She called it ‘lame,’ she called it ‘dangerous.'”
The Obama-era DACA order is set to expire March 5.
