The final stage of moral collapse

When the U.S. Supreme Court legalized so-called same-sex marriage in 2015, the concern was that the legalization of pedophilia would soon follow. This concern is fast becoming reality with forces working overtime to label pedophilia as just another sexual orientation.

James Cantor, director of Toronto Sexuality Centre, stated in December that the choice of pedophilia should be a right.

“Speaking as a gay man,” Cantor tweeted, “I believe we SHOULD include the P [pedophiles]. To do otherwise is to betray the principles that give us our rights.”

Following up on the normalization of homosexuality and transgenderism, a medical student, Mirjam Heine, said at a TEDx talk in Germany last May that pedophiles are seemingly born that way and, therefore, need acceptance.

“Just like pedophiles,” said Heine, “we are not responsible for our feelings. We do not choose them.”

The American Psychiatric Association, however, has defined pedophilia as a sexual deviation, a sociopathic condition and a medical disorder. There’s a growing push to now reclassify this disorder as just another sexual orientation as Heine did in her presentation.

According to U.K. sociologist Sarah Goode, such a reclassification of pedophilia is definitely an option.

“There are a lot of people who say: ‘We outlawed homosexuality, and we were wrong. Perhaps we’re wrong about pedophilia,'” she explains in a 2013 article titled “Paedophilia: Bringing Dark Desires to Light.”

In this same article, U.K. journalist Jon Henley observed that “child brides were once the norm; in the late 16th century, the age of consent in England was 10.”

Henley further appealed to research that suggested sex acts between adults and children might be a good thing. He pointed out a 1987 Dutch study claiming that its “sample of boys in pedophilic relationships felt positively about them.” He also cited a major 1998–2000 American analysis suggesting that such relationships, when entered into voluntarily, are “nearly uncorrelated with undesirable outcomes.”

Like Heine, Goode argues for a shift in social attitudes toward pedophilia.

“Adult sexual attraction to children is part of the continuum of human sexuality; it’s not something we can eliminate,” she says. The key to minimizing child sex abuse, says Goode, is to remove the stigma on sexual attraction to children and allow pedophiles “to be ordinary members of society, with moral standards like everyone else.”
