Personhood of the unborn is a focal point at Cleveland’s Right to Life Conference
By Bradley Eli, M.Div., Ma.Th., ChurchMilitant, March 9, 2018
Two key topics at the pro-life conference, Bringing America Back to Life, are connecting the dots between contraception and abortion and the need for recognizing the personhood of unborn children.
When deciding the landmark case Roe v. Wade that legalized abortion in 1973 Justice Harry Blackmun in his majority opinion wrote, “If this suggestion of personhood is established, [Roe’s] case, of course, collapses, for the fetus’ right to life would then be guaranteed specifically by the [14th] Amendment.”
Molly Smith, executive director of Cleveland Right to Life, the organization sponsoring the pro-life conference, Bringing America Back to Life, is seeing that incremental pro-life legislation isn’t working to stop abortions. She is, therefore, supporting the Personhood Alliance, which is urging legislators to recognize the truth that unborn babies are persons with the inalienable right to life. Once that truth is recognized in law then the 14th amendment will protect the inalienable right to life of the unborn in all fifty states.
The conference has a lineup of solid speakers including Matt Walsh, who spoke at the conference in 2016. Michael Voris will also be speaking at the conference on the influence that contraception has had in promoting abortions by making sex all about pleasure and not about the procreation of persons.
