A candidate for governor in Oklahoma is ready to deal with abortion in spite of Washington and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Dan Fisher served two terms in the Oklahoma House and now pastors Liberty Church in Yukon, Oklahoma. He’s announced his candidacy for governor with an emphasis in his campaign on life for the preborn and state’s rights.

In an interview with OneNewsNow, Fisher said he recalls the day when being pro-life meant ending abortion.

“Unfortunately, pro-life today has been so misused by candidates and people who just use it as a slogan to get elected [that] I don’t think it means anything,” he shares. “They certainly don’t intend to end it – and so I have shifted from being pro-life to becoming an abolitionist.”

Fisher says it’s time to be realistic about abortion by calling it what it is: murder. “And then when we call it what it is, we will treat it like what it is,” he adds.

“So rather than regulating murder by nipping around the edges and trying to pass these little incremental changes, I believe it’s time that we just stand up and end abortion,” says the pastor. “It’s murder anyway, so we should have ended it a long time ago.”

The gubernatorial candidate contends Oklahoma laws already on the books would accomplish that, but that what is really needed is a state constitutional amendment to that effect. Then, he says, Oklahoma would need to send a message to the federal government that it doesn’t have the authority to force abortion on the state.

As he states on his campaign website: “If some states like Colorado and California can defy Washington, D.C. by legalizing pot and harboring illegal aliens, surely Oklahoma can defy D.C. in order to secure the right to life.”

Fisher says he also has strong proposals to deal with another major problem for Oklahoma, and that is to remedy the state’s financial difficulties. One step he proposes: reducing the size of government.
