As Catholics decried the toppling of the statues of St. Junipero Serra in several California locations, Bishop Barron noticed that many wanted to know what the bishops were going to do about it. He responded that this is the wrong question because.. it is the province of the laity to engage directly with the larger secular world.

Speaking of clerics trying to administer the sacraments during lockdown measures, Francis said, "This priestly creativity has scored some 'adolescent' expressions against the [lockdown] measures of authorities who have an obligation to safeguard people's health."... He added that the majority of priests, however, have been "obedient and creative ... " saying these compliant priests were "fathers" and not "teenagers."
