By Msgr. Charles Pope, National Catholic Register - The bishops, at least collectively, do not seem to be overly concerned by the rampant unbelief in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has obviously been somewhat preoccupied recently with the sexual-abuse scandal, but even before that, they seemed more focused on social-justice issues such as immigration, human trafficking and health care. None of these are unimportant, but far less attention is paid to the declining numbers in the pews, open dissent from Church teaching, and confusion about even the most fundamental truths of the faith.

It’s not a bunch of fables; it’s a true story. If the characters who we are told to look up to always did the right thing, it wouldn’t have much to teach us about real life. In real life, we all make wrong decisions, and the stories in the Bible show us the consequences of those decisions.

Although “we cannot really understand what this supreme joy will be like”, said the Pope, Jesus offers us an image of the master who, finding his servants still awake on his return, "will have them recline at table, and proceed to wait on them”. It is as though everything in Heaven will be reversed, said the Pope: “It will no longer be the servants, namely, us, who will serve God, but God will put Himself at our service”.

Carlo Maria Viganò, who confirmed that he received complaints as papal nuncio about homosexual predation by Rossi.
