Earth Hour began in 2007 in Australia when more than 2.2 million souls denied themselves electricity for a whopping 1/24th of the day to express their shared concern for “climate change.” Immediately thereafter, they returned to their normal (sinful?) energy consumption rates. The Vatican has participated in this quasi-pagan act of mortification every year since at least 2009.

Essentially, for more than 80 years seven out of every ten Americans were members of some religious body... Then, in 2000, the bottom fell out.

For me, and many men like me, the easiest way to deal with insecurity is through bravado. If I can convince others that I am tough and cool, then eventually I’ll believe it too... However, bravado and the like are seeking love in all the wrong places. It is trying to place my identity and worth in the opinions of others. This can work here and there, but eventually my fortress will collapse and fall because of the shifting sand that it’s set upon.
