By Randall Smith, The Catholic Thing - I hear a lot of talk from certain Church prelates. The Pope talks and talks – in the Vatican, on planes, and to reporters who hate the Church. The German bishops talk and talk – as though everyone in the world should listen to them. But when others talk back, when they warn and try to reason with them and share their concerns, I don’t see a lot of listening.  Do they read any of the thoughtful commentaries from the other side? Do they care? They never respond as though they did.

Charles Pope - In response to some in the current scene who are dismissing mortal sin as a clear or present danger to the human person, yesterday’s article sought to address the conditions for mortal sin. Grave matter, due discretion, and deliberate consent are not as hard to come by as some allege... In today’s brief post,  there is addressed the rather brusque dismissal of the notion that anyone ever chooses to turn away from God. Tomorrow’s post will, with proper caveats seek to list some of the more some of the more common mortal sins committed.

Very often this is the case of a penitent standing in the line and preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confession, wherein tension is experienced. However, upon leaving the Confessional, having confessed and received absolution, interior peace radiates even from the very countenance of the person.

Robert McElroy is doubling down on his position that unrepentant sodomites and the divorced-and-remarried should not be barred from Holy Communion... McElroy published another article on Thursday in pro-gay America Magazine titled "Cardinal McElroy responds to his critics on sexual sin, the Eucharist, and LGBT and divorced/remarried Catholics." In it, he argues that conscience and pastoral approaches in moral matters can be superior to Church doctrine.
