By Robert Royal, The Catholic Thing - There are multiple suggestions here. To begin with, we can let, say, people in Rome wrangle over “tradition” versus “traditionalism,” a distinction Pope Francis tried to draw with his fellow Jesuits during his recent trip to Canada. While they work at that, the rest of us can recognize what Eliot did: that we need what the tradition has already discovered – the sifting of the wheat from the chaff – an achievement that is not the work of a single group of people who happen to be alive at any given moment, but of the real-world testing of truths and their application in many times and places.
