By Msgr. Charles Pope - For many people the Sacrament of Confession is experienced in a rather perfunctory way. Upon preparing to go to confession many are content to look at some matters pertaining to external behavior: “I got angry with my children….I had lustful thoughts…. I was distracted in prayer, or I didn’t pray as much as I should…. I gossiped….and so forth. While the confession of these sorts of things is good and proper it also remains true that,  for confession to really heal,  it is necessary to go deeper. It is necessary to examine the deeper drives and motives of sin; to examine not only what I have done, by to ponder why.

By Staff, LifeSite News - Bishop Liam Cary of the Diocese of Baker, Oregon, has firmly rejected any openness to blessing couples in same-sex or otherwise “irregular unions” following the 2023 Vatican Declaration Fiducia Supplicans, instead instructing his priests “not to bless known co-habiting couples, of the same sex or both sexes.”... “Here, as in Africa, if a co-habiting heterosexual couple or a same sex couple were to ask a priest to bless them, they would be seeking an official sign of approval for behavior that the Church teaches is sinful in God’s sight,” Cary warned.

When we do not have a good attitude towards sin, our relationship with God is wounded and our faith in Him begins to dwindle... Jesus in Mk 1:12-15 shows us the two attitudes that we must have towards sin if we are going to have a healthy relationship with God – Resist and Repent.
