For example, as William Kilpatrick writes in a recent essay in this magazine, the Vatican has become a kind of sanctuary city for credibly accused homosexual predators while Pope Francis laments the presence of plastic in our oceans and excoriates those in the U.S. who want to build a wall to secure our borders.

By Deacon Omar Gutierrez, EWTN News - What does one do, then, when the truth presented by God through his prophets or his Church becomes an obstacle to our own vision?... Our Lord answers this question in St. Luke’s Gospel, as he says that he has “come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!” The language is passionate. Jesus Christ is not a disinterested bystander to world events. He has specific desires that he will pursue, desires which will at times stand against our best-laid plans. And in case that is unclear, Jesus says that he has not “come to establish peace on earth,” “but rather division.”

But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.

By Tim Busch, Real Clear Religion - All members of Finance Councils should remember: Their fiduciary responsibility is to the diocese, not the bishop. More importantly, their faith shouldn’t be in the Church’s leaders, but rather in the Church’s teachings, which they are called to safeguard by preventing financial abuse… This is true for every Finance Council in America, and not just those at the diocesan level. Individual parishes also have such councils, with the same responsibility. Financial abuse by regular priests also needs to be identified and ended wherever it exists.
