By David Catron, American Spectator - Thomas Sowell famously wrote, “Only in government is any benefit, however small, considered to be worth any cost, however large.” This is essentially where we are in our response to COVID-19. Thus far, every projection of potential fatalities has been far too high, including the projections issued by the Coronavirus Task Force last week. We know all too well from past experience, however, what the human cost will be if we pursue mitigation strategies that result in widespread unemployment — as would a national stay-at-home order. It will not be, as Dr. Fauci suggests, “inconvenient.” It will kill more of us than COVID-19. It will be, as the president has warned, worse than the problem itself.

Gavin Newsom is right that “things will look different”: When our front doors finally swing open and we come out blinking in the sunshine, our cities and towns will be mere husks of what they were just a month ago. Empty storefronts, boarded-up shops, terrible local “art installations” in windows that once showed friends and families laughing over their favorite dish and bottle of wine… Nine states have issued similar “plans.” Washington, D.C. chimed in Wednesday, extending the shutdown another month. Meanwhile, the House and Senate are fighting when they’re talking at all.

The governor said that the progress being made in New York against the coronavirus has nothing to do with God… “Our behavior has stopped the spread of the virus,” Cuomo said. “God did not stop the spread of the virus.”.. Of course, the left is quick to blame any human tragedy on God, mockingly asking why He would allow it. But is the governor, who claims to be a faithful Catholic, really that clueless?
