Bishop Joseph E. Strickland: Before I Formed You in the Womb, I Knew You

By Bishop Joseph E. Strickland, Pillars of Faith - There is much confusion surrounding remarks from the Holy Father regarding the sanctity of human life and the moral clarity of the Church’s teaching. While some may call these “complex ethical issues,” I must affirm without hesitation that on matters of life and death, the truth is not complex – it is clear, revealed, and unchanging... The Catholic Church has always taught that every human life, from the moment of conception until natural death, is sacred. Abortion is the deliberate taking of innocent life. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states plainly: “Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception” (CCC 2270). There is no ambiguity here.

Four States are Finally Rid of Planned Parenthood, by Melissa O’Rourke

By Melissa O'Rourke, LifeNews - Planned Parenthood officially shut down its last two clinics in Louisiana on Tuesday, leaving the state as the most populous in the country without any of the abortion provider’s locations... With the closures in Baton Rouge and New Orleans, Louisiana joins Wyoming, North Dakota, and Mississippi as the only states without any Planned Parenthood clinics. The shutdowns follow major federal funding cuts for abortion providers under the Republican-passed One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

Durbin Declines (Cardinal Cupich) Award After Global Backlash Over Pro-Abortion Views, by Daniel Payne

By Daniel Payne, Catholic News Agency - U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Illinois, will decline an award from the Archdiocese of Chicago after global backlash over his strong pro-abortion views that included comments from Pope Leo XIV and criticism from U.S. bishops... Chicago archbishop Cardinal Blase Cupich announced Durbin’s decision in a Sept. 30 statement, revealing that Durbin informed the prelate that he “decided not to receive [the] award” at the archdiocesan Keep Hope Alive celebration on Nov. 5. Durbin was scheduled to receive a “Lifetime Achievement Award for support to immigrants” at the event.

The Pope’s Statement on the Durbin Award: Wrong, and Irrelevant, by Phil Lawler

By Phil Lawler, Catholic Culture - In rolling out the shopworn “seamless garment” approach, the Pope suggested that some other unnamed politicians should not be classified as pro-life. American Catholics have been debating that issue for 40 years. But right now the issue is not the status of those other hypothetical politicians. The question is whether Durbin is pro-life. By the Pope’s own statement, he is not. “The Church teaching on each one of those issues is very clear.” Therefore Durbin should not be honored by a Catholic institution. Case closed.
