Is Abortion the Preeminent Issue of Catholic Social Justice? by John Clark

By John Clark, EWTN News - On Nov. 12, while the assembled bishops of the USCCB debated the language of an accompanying letter to a Catholic voting guide, Bishop McElroy of San Diego took the microphone and proclaimed, “It is not Catholic teaching that abortion is the preeminent issue that we face in the world of Catholic social teaching.”… I may have missed his point due to the awkward phrasing. It should be clarified, however, that there are numerous distinct and definitive ways to illustrate that abortion is in fact the preeminent issue of Catholic social teaching.

Louisiana AG: Abortion Center Broke the Law, Then Tried to Cover It Up, by Paul Smeaton

By Paul Smeaton, LifeSiteNews - The Louisiana Department of Justice announced today that it has found evidence that a Baton Rouge abortion center repeatedly committed “criminal and professional misconduct” and then attempted to hide evidence of it from authorities… Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry tweeted, “We have a legal obligation to report potentially criminal activity to law enforcement & licensing authorities. Shockingly, Hope Medical is refusing to unseal this evidence & permit us to carry out our legal duties.”

Abortion Clinic at Center of Supreme Court Battle May Have Covered Up Rape of Young Girls, by Micaiah Bilger

By Micaiah Bilger, LifeNews - While declining to address specifics of the Hope case, the Louisiana attorney general’s office said the state’s abortion clinics have a disturbing pattern of failing to report rapes, and that a survey it conducted showed that between 2013 and 2018 at least 66 abortions were performed on girls 11, 12 or 13 years old. The ages indicate that the girls were survivors of rape.More comprehensive data has been withheld from regulators and the public, state officials contend, because at least two abortion clinics that closed recently shredded all their documents when they shut down.

Why US Bishops Place ‘Preeminent Priority’ on Stopping Abortion, by Lauretta Brown

By Lauretta Brown, EWTN News - A debate arose during the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ fall general assembly about whether or not the bishops should name the abortion issue as a “preeminent priority” in their short letter on faithful citizenship… Archbishop Charles Chaput… “I am certainly not against quoting the Holy Father’s full statement. I think it’s a beautiful statement. I believe it. But I am against anyone stating that our stating it [abortion] is ‘preeminent’ is contrary to the teaching of the Pope,” he said. “That isn’t true.”
