Catholic News Agency - The Illinois Senate has approved an expansive abortion bill that would declare abortion to be a “fundamental right” in the state and would remove regulations on abortion clinics and doctors… Shortly before midnight on the final day of the legislative session, the Senate approved the bill by a vote of 34-20. It had passed the House last week in a 64-50 vote… The bill now goes to the desk of Gov. J.B. Pritzker, who has indicated that he will sign it.

Edwards stands out as a striking exception to the pro-abortion advocacy of his party… As the only pro-life Democratic governor in the South, he signed a heartbeat bill in his state despite immense pressure from his party nationally to do otherwise.

John Bel Edwards signed a bill banning abortions throughout the state once a fetal heartbeat can be detected. These heartbeat bills have now been passed in many states across the union, bringing light to the fact that life is sacred and must be protected from its earliest stages onward.

The cries of the preborn are drowned out by shouts of “My body, my choice!” or the claim that “Women’s reproductive rights are under attack.” In reality, what is really under attack is our dignity as women. To the power-hungry elites, women are nothing more than a vast voting block that serves to solidify their power in government and the world.
