BOONE, North Carolina, July 11, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) – Evangelist Franklin Grahamis offering a positive response to anti-Donald Trump vitriol by way of a t-shirt and a call to prayer.
The left’s hatred for President Trump hit an apex after his surprise election victory over Hillary Clinton in 2016 and has boiled steadily since, with liberals trying to hang the bogeyman mantle on him on every issue from women’s rights to immigration and healthcare.
“Impeach 45” t-shirts for sale via Wal-Mart’s website landed the mega-retailer in hot water earlier this month, prompting controversy and boycott threats before Wal-Mart pulled the shirts and apologized with the explanation that they came from a third-party vendor and were unauthorized.
Amid the controversy, Graham posted a Facebook message saying he was glad that Wal-Mart had removed the shirts, and announced an alternative that could actually have an uplifting effect – the “PRAY for 45” t-shirt.
“In the meantime, we came up with a t-shirt to promote something that can really make a difference – PRAYER!” he said.
The “PRAY for 45” t-shirt summons prayer for the president based upon the 1 Timothy 2:2 scripture passage, which instructs the faithful to pray for “all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.”
It is for sale from the online Billy Graham Bookstore in the Ruth’s Attic section, which supports the worldwide evangelism efforts of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
“Wear this t-shirt as a reminder to lift up our president in prayer,” visitors to the siteare encouraged.
“There’s a way every one of us can make a difference for our nation – we can pray for our president and our leaders, as God’s Word instructs us,” Graham said in a subsequent post regarding the shirt. “God is the hope for our country, and our leaders, including President Donald J. Trump, need our prayers. The bottom line? Prayer can make America great!”
