Blood is one of those things, like air, water, and sunshine, that is easily taken for granted, because if we are alive, it is granted that blood courses through our veins. Blood is indispensable to life.

I often profess that science should deepen our faith. During the month of July, the month of the Most Precious Blood, it’s good to consider what we know about blood from modern biochemistry and how it intersects with the history of the Catholic Church. …
