Remember when Establishment conservatives such as David French were echoing Joe Biden, warning that President Donald Trump and his MAGA movement were somehow extremists, who violated traditional norms of civic peace and decency? It’s certain that those norms were quickly banished in Trump’s era, but which political faction shattered the civil peace?

No one can point to any genuinely authoritarian actions on the part of Trump, whose removals of illegal aliens is slower and less intensive than what Barack Obama enacted in office. Trump hasn’t ordered any drone strikes killing U.S. citizens — that was also unique to Obama. Nor did Trump wield federal law enforcement agencies to target political enemies — except those who’d already used lawfare and malicious prosecution to persecute conservatives and Christians. ….
