BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA – The number of abortions in Louisiana dropped 9% from 2019 to 2020, according to preliminary figures provided to Louisiana Right to Life recently by the Louisiana Department of Health. This puts the abortion rate in Louisiana at a 12-year low.

There were 7,448 abortions performed in Louisiana in 2020. In 2019, 8,144 unborn babies were killed by abortion.

Abortion numbers are 27 percent lower than they were in 2014, when 10,211 abortions were done in Louisiana. The number of abortions performed in the state had increased steadily from 2008-2014 before the decline began. …
