Jason Jones & John ZmirakIt’s an extremely painful, confusing time to be a Catholic. Baptists or Methodists are rightly concerned that Woke activists are infiltrating their institutions with deceptive doctrines such as Critical Race Theory. But they don’t have two things we Catholics have, for better or worse:

  • Top down, hierarchical institutions, from which we cannot escape without (as our church teaches) endangering our salvation.

  • Doctrines that promise that these institutions are at some level divinely protected from error. So the plausibility of our beliefs rests on them remaining consistent over the ages — both with Holy Scripture, and with themselves. Unlike the US Supreme Court, the Vatican cannot reverse itself on central doctrines where it has previously taught authoritatively. Not without discrediting itself utterly. …
