WASHINGTON, DCBaptist Pastor Robert Jeffress slammed Democratic Party leaders for worshiping the “imaginary god” of abortion Saturday during the Faith & Freedom Coalition conference.

Jeffress, the pastor of First Baptist Dallas in Texas, pointed to the radical extremism on abortion that Democratic leaders have embraced in the past few years, according to The Christian Post.

The Democratic Party platform supports unrestricted, unregulated abortions up to birth and taxpayer-funded abortions. Despite the unpopularity of these position among voters, every major Democratic presidential candidate supports them, too.

Their devotion to abortion – in defiance of most Americans’ beliefs on the issue – is almost religious in nature, something Jeffress pointed out during his speech to the conservative conference.

“When they talk about God, they are not talking about the real God — the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God who revealed Himself in the Bible,” Jeffress said, according to The Huffington Post. “These liberal Democrats are talking about an imaginary god they have created in their own minds: a god who loves abortion and hates Israel.”

He said Democratic presidential candidates know they have a “God problem,” or trouble reaching Christian voters. As a result, many now are talking openly about their faith – but don’t be “fooled,” the pastor cautioned.

“Do you think God has any feeling about the 52 million children that have been butchered in the womb through abortion since 1973?” Jeffress continued. “The true God of the Bible, the real God, is a God who hates abortion and loves Israel.”

He slammed the modern Democratic Party as a “godless” organization, saying its position on issues like abortion is “completely antithetical to the Christian faith.”

Every major Democratic presidential candidate wants to force Americans to pay for abortions with their tax dollars. Many of them also recently voted against a U.S. Senate bill to protect newborns from infanticide. And so far none of them have supported any limits on abortion, not even up to the moment of birth.

These positions are radically out of touch with most voters. Polls consistently show strong support for limits on abortions after the first trimester and opposition to taxpayer-funded abortions. A recent Harvard University poll found that only 36 percent of likely voters support taxpayer-funded abortions. Yet, even former Vice President Joe Biden recently flip-flopped on the issue and now says he supports forcing taxpayers to fund them.
