POLITICS: When a ‘Spy’ Claim is Crazy But Also Totally Legit

A legal scholar says the U.S. Justice Department needs to conduct a thorough investigation into growing evidence the FBI used the power of the federal government for political purposes to target an opposition presidential campaign.

A forthcoming report from the Inspector General’s office reportedly contains evidence that senior FBI officials used the resources of the federal agency to infiltrate the 2016 Trump presidential campaign.

The IG is expanding the existing investigation into the Russia collusion probe by examining whether there was improper, politically motivated surveillance of a Republican candidate by the Obama-led Justice Department.

Meanwhile, rank-and-file FBI agetns are coming forward to say they are willing to testify about the corruption of James Comey, Andrew McCabe, and former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, The Daily Caller reported this week.

“Every special agent I have spoken to in the Washington Field Office wants to see McCabe prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. They feel the same way about Comey,“ one special agent said in a statment. 

Hans von Spakovsky, senior legal fellow at The Heritage Foundation, says there is still not one shred of evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government.

“But what keeps coming out,” he observes, “are all kinds of issues about whether or not the investigation should have been opened in the first place. Whether there was partisanship in that.”

In fact, the year-long claim by the Left of Russian collusion has been flipped on its head in recent weeks to the point that Trump’s claim he was spied on – a claim mocked by Democrats and the media – has not only been confirmed but defended as routine and non-political.

President Trump, meanwhile, has nicknamed the revelation of an FBI informant “SpyGate.”

The questionable decision to launch the investigation, Von Spakovsky tells OneNewsNow, is now the focus instead of claims of collusion.

“Because the very idea,” he says, “that the law enforcement powers of the federal government may have been used for partisan political purposes to target the opposition presidential campaign.”
