Catholic news, Archdiocese of Seattle, Archbishop Paul Ettiene
By SeattlePI.com,
Seattle’s Catholic Archbishop Paul Etienne, responding to the “voluntary resignation” of two gay teachers at John F. Kennedy High School, used soothing language in a Wednesday night letter, but defended an anti-LGBTQ doctrine that many of the faithful find deeply offensive.
While saying “we are one family of faith,” the Archbishop did not yield on church policy that has meant separation for popular and highly regarded teachers in Catholic schools because of who they love.
“Pastors and church leaders need to be clear about the church’s teaching, while at the same time refraining from making judgments taking into consideration the complexity of peoples’ living situations,” said Etienne. The faithful are, the archbishop added, “always called to compassion as we journey.”
