A prominent pro-family organization is warning that legislation currently being pushed by congressional Democrats would “nationalize” Target’s dangerous bathroom/changing room policy.

Target is on record as supporting The Equality Act (H.R.5), something the American Family Association (AFA) says is nothing more than a repackaged version of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA).

“This legislation has been driven for years by rabid homosexual activist groups like Human Rights Campaign and is specifically designed to place sexual liberty above religious liberty and the First Amendment,” AFA says in an Action Alert sent out Thursday.

If The Equality Act is passed by Congress and President Donald Trump, AFA says a Christian business owner or even a church that refuses to hire a homosexual or transgender individual would immediately be exposed to potential lawsuits by LGBT activists.

“Another example would be a baker or florist who refuses to cater a homosexual ‘wedding,'” the AFA Action Alert continues. “This business owner would face crippling fines for refusing to forfeit his or her religious beliefs.”

Other organizations voicing concerns about The Equality Act’s potential impact on religious liberty including Family Research Council, National Religious Broadcasters, and Alliance Defending Freedom.

Meanwhile, AFA says H.R.5 would nationalize Target’s dangerous policy that allows men who say they’re women to access women’s restrooms and changing areas.

“We think Target’s policy that they have for restrooms is totally inappropriate and it basically puts women and children in harm’s way,” says Rob Chambers of AFA Action.

AFA began boycotting Target in 2016 after the retailer announced it was opening up its restrooms and changing areas to people of the opposite sex. The group’s Action Alert includes contact information for Target headquarters.
