SPLC: Antifa Not a Hate Group, But FRC Is

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) claims that Antifa is not violent and refuses to list it as a hate group, but insists that the Christian pro-family organization Family Research Council (FRC) fits the bill.

SPLC President Richard Cohen provided testimony before the House Homeland Security Committee (HHSC) Thursday on behalf of the racially charged left-leaning political activist group, Antifa, and contended it is not a violent group spreading hate – despite the numerous violent demonstrations it is witnessed organizing and participating in on the daily news.

“If you are familiar with our work, we write about Antifa often,” Cohen asserted at the HHSC, according to the Washington Times. “We condemn their tactics – I’ve said so publicly and we do so always – but Antifa is not a group that vilifies people on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion and the like.”

Not telling it like it is …

Yet in reality – to those who are familiar with the group of rowdy demonstrators – there are plenty of things that Antifa despises and attempts to wipe out.

“Antifa hates capitalism, hates America and hates anybody that disagrees with their mission,” Townhall reported.

Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa.) challenged Cohen’s vision of Antifa, stressing that the virulent group’s preference for using physical acts of aggression – not words – to pound their message into the minds of Americans is really what they are all about.

“So, you’re okay with Antifa – as long as they don’t say things that you don’t agree with – but it’s okay if they hit people on the head with a bike lock or set things on fire or riot and flout the law by wearing face masks and incite riots – you’re okay with that?” Perry rhetorically asked Cohen, according to the Times.

Even though clearly hateful acts perpetuated by Antifa to break up conservative events are regularly seen on television, Cohen contends that such hate-filled demonstrations are not sufficient to assign the leftist organizers status as a hate group – but Perry disagrees.

“We condemn groups like Antifa – we write about them often,” the conservative politician from the Keystone State emphasized. “We don’t list them as hate groups.”

Confusing love and hate, black and white?

Furthermore, the SPLC stresses to its readership a number of reasons why it does not categorize Antifa with other so-called hate groups.

“The SPLC condemns violence in all its forms, including the violent acts of far-left street movements like Antifa – short for anti-fascist,” SPLC explains on its website. “But the propensity for violence – though present in many hate groups – is not among the criteria for listing. Also, Antifa groups do not promote hatred based on [beliefs, genetics] sexual orientation or gender identity.”

The SPLC manipulates its designations so that it can shine those who promote its agenda in a good light and vilify those who stand for the morality and biblical values that it opposes.

“Other groups which are not violent, however, are listed [by SPLC] as hate groups,” Townhall’s Timothy Meads explained. “For example, the Family Research Council (FRC) is listed as a hate group simply for its language which, according to SLPC, could create violence and crimes.”

Cohen’s organization stands strongly against virtually everything the Washington, D.C.-based conservative group promotes, including free speech, freedom of religion, the sanctity of human life, and marriage as only between one man and one women.

He goes on to try and justify his radical left group’s designation of FRC as a so-called hate group.

“Our listing of hate groups doesn’t necessarily mean that they engage in violence, although we think that the (FRC) anti-LGBT propaganda is one of the factors that makes the LGBT community in our country the most likely to be victimized by hate crimes,” Cohen attempted to reason.

Antifa called out by the left

Even Democrats standing on the far left cannot justify keeping Antifa off the hate groups list.

“Earlier this year, Democrat House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi issued a statement condemning Antifa and their allies after violent incidents in Berkley, California,” Meads recounted. “Rep. Pelosi made a specific comment [about] how hateful the group is.”

She impressed how Antifa is dead-set against allowing Americans to practice the very things that the Founding Fathers and soldiers over the centuries have fought for – the freedoms that the angry progressive protesters try so hard to suppress.

“In California – as across all of our great nation – we have deep reverence for the constitutional right to peaceful dissent and free speech,” Pelosi asserted, according to Townhall. “Non-violence is fundamental to that right. Let us use this sad [Antifa protest] event to reaffirm that we must never fight hate with hate, and to remember the values of peace, openness and justice that represent the best of America.”
