Student Group: Accessibility Actually Displays ‘Obsession’ (Yale Launches “Plan B” Vending Machines)

A pro-life student organization says Yale’s launch of “Plan B” vending machines shows “a tragc obsession with ending life.”

Plan B (Levonorgestrel) is also referred to as the “morning-after pill,” an emergency contraception that “reduces the chance of pregnancy after unprotected sex” or failure of a regular birth control method. As reported by YaleDailyNews.com, a new 24/7 “wellness-to-go” vending machine will soon sell Plan B pills, as well as other over-the-counter medications and condoms, at Silliman College. That’s the largest college at Yale in terms of area, occupying most of a city block.

“The point of this is to make Plan B more accessible and to make medications in general more accessible,” Ileana Valdez ’21, a Yale College Council representative told YaleDailyNews. “Hopefully this will set a precedent for more machines to show up around campus that contain other things so Yale students don’t have to go out of their way to go to CVS, especially students from the new colleges.”

Kristi Hamrick of Students for Life says it’s a “tragic” but “real” trend nationwide on college and university campuses to make it “easier and easier” to end pre-born life.

“And in particular, they are trying to push chemical abortion drugs on campuses,” she adds. “We saw this in California with SB-320, and that bill is going to come back. They’re going to try to make ending a baby’s life with drugs very simple. We see this Plan B move [at Yale] as the same kind of gesture.”

Rather than schools getting together and investigating how to better educate their students, Hamrick says they’re getting together to end pre-born life.

“What’s particularly ironic about this effort is that Yale already sells these Plan B drugs and gives them out to their students,” she continues. “That’s already happening. To make it simpler, to put it in the dorms, shows a really tragic obsession with ending life.”
