Christendom Defends Her Honour

In 1531, Christian Europe, thanks to the Roman Catholic Church, had enjoyed over a 1000 years of Christendom. Ever since St. Constantine the Great –  “Equal to the Apostles” – Catholic Christianity had been triumphing gloriously. In countless souls and societies of Christendom, Mary had crushed the serpent and Christ the King was glorified. Central to this triumph was Marian devotion, the heart of the Incarnation.

This veneration due to Mary had transformed the barbarous, pagans of western Europe into “knights in shining armor,” marching off to die in crusades and lay down their life for their brethren – in honour of Our Lady. The Angelus was a crusading prayer. Christendom formed around Our Lady to worship Christ the King. As Newman noted, “The Church and Satan agreed together in this, that Son and Mother went together.” …
