A new statistic on motherhood was recently released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. “There were 3,613,647 births registered in the United States in 2020,” reports CNS News’s Terence Jeffrey, who sadly adds that “1,464,121 of these — or 40.5 percent — were to unmarried mothers.”
This is actually not the highest this statistic has ever been. In 2007 and 2008, 51.8% of women gave birth to babies out of wedlock, and the percentage of unwed mothers giving birth in 2020 was actually not as high as in 2019. Nevertheless, this perpetually high rate of births to unwed mothers can be traced back to the 1960s with the inception of Medicaid. …
