WATCH! Rep. Mandie Landry Anti-Catholic Speech on Louisiana House Floor (June 2 2022) on SB 342

On June 2, 2022, Louisiana State Rep. Mandie Landry from New Orleans (who is also running for State Senator) spoke against SB 342, a bill that would protect babies from abortion if Roe v. Wade is overturned. Instead of focusing on the topic at hand, Rep. Landry launched into a tirade against the Catholic Church, claiming the following among other things:

“Catholic Church is responsible for the rape of children for decades and decades. The Catholic Church is responsible for millions of deaths of people in Africa because they refuse to let them use condoms.”

“IVF came up… Many of you and many of my friends only have children because of IVF. And you have a church here telling you that your child was born in sin.”

While those in the Catholic Church have undoubtedly made serious mistakes, just as in every other human institution, the Catholic Church is one of the greatest forces for good in the world. Rep. Landry’s statements are completely false and are disrespectful to Catholic legislators and citizens in Louisiana and across America.
