Archbishop Eleganti on Synodality: ‘I Can No Longer Listen To Your Propaganda’, by Bishop Marian Eleganti

For the love of Christ, finally put an end to the excess of synodal documents, intermediate stages, indications for the continuation of the process, announcements of results, final documents that aren’t final, extensions to other cycles, the multiplication of commissions, at the end of an assembly in a canonical no-man’s land. The vast people of God are unaware of your documents. In my experience, almost no believer knows or reads them. Stop spinning on your axis in a process that hasn’t reawakened love for Jesus Christ in a single soul, but which has so far occupied primarily “reformist Catholics” (German-speaking) (in full-time ministry). Stop multiplying and multiplying yourselves in working groups and commissions! The people of God aren’t interested. The result is a fog, blessings best left untouched, leadership models that contradict current canon law, new committees or councils, as if we haven’t already had enough of them for 60 years. We live in a bubble and employ the wrong people. Most of the time, the bishops are already seated at the tables, but they’re not the only ones. The call to the Holy Spirit passes too quickly from your lips.

Proclaim the Gospel for the love of Christ! Proclaim Christ to a Europe that has turned its back on him! Proclaim Christ to a world with apocalyptic tendencies that continually unleashes new wars! Speak of Jesus Christ instead of synodality! While you understand the latter, others have already expressed it (for example, the Anglicans), resulting in new divisions.

Stop keeping the Church in an endless synodal frenzy, supposedly to exchange gifts. The real problems within the Church are not addressed: the mass apostasy of the baptized and confirmed from the essential contents of the faith (the divinity of Jesus; his bodily resurrection); liturgical informality (Mosebach) and the abuses of the Novus Ordo; the lack of priestly vocations in many particular churches; widespread heterodox preaching (catechesis; university theology); and a pastoral practice that contradicts Catholic teaching and canon law, presumably because reality is superior to ideas. The list is incomplete.

I can no longer listen to your propaganda. I suspect I’m not the only one. The Church has not been managed in such an authoritarian and manipulative manner for a long time as it was during the new synodality under Pope Francis, a relentless attempt to achieve desired results. But Godot hasn’t arrived. At least not yet, and by its very nature, there’s no point in waiting for him! What has arrived is the volatility of doctrine, the moving dune, not the rock. Before the end, according to the Scriptures, the great apostasy occurs, prophets appear to flatter the ears, doctrines are sought to suit one’s taste, a truth that costs nothing, homosexuality (diversity); the Antichrist, martyrdom. Anyone can read it.
