By Chris Woodward, OneNewsNow.com,  June 20, 2017 – A critic of Target’s bathroom and changing room policy says people shouldn’t overlook the latest departure of a Target executive.

Last week Target announced that senior vice president and chief communications officer Dustee Jenkins – the retailer’s chief spokeswoman – would be joining the growing list of Target executives who have exited the company. Jenkins had been with Target for seven years.

“This is an important story because Jenkins was at the head of Target’s communications office when the announcement was made that Target was welcoming anyone to come and use the bathroom or changing room they wanted, based on how they feel, not on biological sex,” says Robert Kuykendall of 2ndVote.

“This controversy with Target started because Target was responding to the bathroom law in North Carolina that men should go to the men’s room and women should go to the women’s room, and Target took a stand to say We think anyone should come into whatever bathroom they choose, based on how they feel.

Earlier this year, the Wall Street Journal reported that Target’s CEO didn’t approve of the blog announcing the policy, and that it went out without his approval.

“But the company still stood by it,” says Kuykendall, whose organization has a campaign called #AnywhereButTarget. “That’s why I think it’s important to look at what’s happened with Target, as you’re seeing more of the top-level executives departing.”

He adds: “We’re not hearing a lot of reasons why they’re going away.”

Kuykendall points out Target’s stock has gone down substantially since the Target policy went into place, and things have taken another turn for the worse following news that Amazon was buying Whole Foods.
