David and Jason BenhamWe haven’t said a lot about the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation to date, as we’re waiting to hear all sides. Yet one thing has been abundantly clear from the outset of this whole thing: the spirit behind “exposing” his past (or anyone else’s, for that matter) has been to simply destroy this man, not restore him.

As Christians, we cannot fall prey to that destructive spirit. Anytime sin is exposed (in Kavanaugh’s case it’s only an accusation), we are called by God to seek restoration – to provide a redemptive way forward by helping break sinful patterns in someone’s life, not to destroy them and leave them left bloody in a ditch.

“Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and cover over a multitude of sins.” James 5:20

What we are watching from the radical left is utterly detestable. It reeks only of destruction and doesn’t have a sniff of restorative redemption. We’ve seen the same thing from the right at times (nothing close to this magnitude), and it’s bad all the way around. This is where believers must stand up and speak. How many of us are thankful for God’s redemptive work in our own lives!

And the hijacking of Dr. Ford’s personal trauma – this woman clearly has pain in her life – by exposing this against her will, just to destroy Kavanaugh, is repugnant. They don’t care about restoration – they just want the destruction of Brett Kavanaugh; and if Ford is collateral damage, then so be it.

We also see an agenda from the radical left to remove God’s word and His standards from nearly every vestige of society … yet the very things of which they are accusing Kavanaugh demand these same standards be upheld. In other words, the Bible teaches us not to be drunk, to treat women honorably and purely, and that bad company corrupts good morals. All three of these are ignored in so many contexts today, especially our high schools, because they are supposedly the “bigoted” standards of an “oppressive” religion. Yet when the left’s political purposes can be served by them they’ll demand these very standards be upheld by those they are targeting.

A few simple scriptures would go a long way in high schools today. They certainly would’ve helped keep Kavanaugh out of hot water – though the left would’ve just found another angle to target him.

Ephesians 5:18 – “Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit…”

1 Corinthians 15:33 – “Do not be deceived: ‘Bad company corrupts good morals.’”

While these standards have been aggressively removed from our high schools we still demand our leaders, while in high school, to have abided by them.

That’s hypocrisy.

At the end of the day, whether or not he is confirmed (God knows), what we watched last Thursday from Brett Kavanaugh’s opening speech before the Senate Judiciary Committee was a historic defense of a man who represents and stewards many of the values this country was built upon. He’s become an icon of these values that are now under assault by radical progressives.

The left-wing machine sees Kavanaugh as a hurdle toward their “progress” of totalitarian secularism – so they seek to destroy him (not restore him) as a husband, as a father and as a man. His speech was a stinging rebuke to that machine.

One of our good friends texted us after his speech, saying, “Americans are ticked off. We see the attacks on Trump and think he doesn’t deserve it – but he’s a billionaire with a quick tongue and brings a lot of it on. But when we see Kavanaugh and what is happening to him we realize – ‘Hey, this is a good guy, he’s like me. Heck, he’s better than me. If they attack him they’ll attack me and anyone like me – enough is enough!’ The left has chosen to pull this on the wrong guy and it’s going to blow up in their face. Americans are sick of it!”

Americans are sick of this.

When Kavanaugh said his daughters prayed for Dr. Ford before bed, our hearts were touched. What a picture of God’s grace – and child training – in the midst of a left-wing feeding-frenzy on his life.

“If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the Lord will reward you.” Proverbs 25:21-22

In our opinion, BK’s defense before the Senate Judiciary Committee will go down as one of the best speeches in defense of liberty and justice for all in American history.

If you haven’t seen it, watch it now. If you’ve seen it already, watch it again – and send it to friends.
