On Sunday, President Joe Biden announced that he is dropping out of the 2024 race for reelection, following intense pressure from fellow Democrats for him to do so, due to his rapidly declining mental capabilities.

In a social media post on his personal X.com account, Biden first claimed credit for improving the country. In the second paragraph, he thanked his supporters.

Then – in the third paragraph – Biden announced that he was ending his candidacy because he believes it is “in the best of my party and the country to stand down.”

Biden also said he will now “focus solely on fulfilling my duties as the president for the remainder of my term – and made no reference to the glaringly obvious cognitive decline evident in his public appearances and comments that forced him to drop his bid for reelection.
