CatholicVote: Boy Scouts Dropping ‘Boy’ From Name, Citing ‘Inclusivity’

CV NEWS FEED // In an attempt to make his organization more “inclusive,” Boy Scouts of America (BSA) CEO Roger Krone announced that the organization will now be known as “Scouting America.”

The Associated Press (AP) noted that the change marks the first time BSA has changed its name “in its 114-year history.”

Back in 2019, BSA renamed its Boy Scout program “Scouting BSA” shortly after it began to admit girls. The organization’s name had otherwise remained the same until this week.

The name change signals “a significant shift as the organization emerges from bankruptcy following a flood of sexual abuse claims and seeks to focus on inclusion,” AP reported.

Krone stated that the move “sends this really strong message to everyone in America that they can come to this program, they can bring their authentic self, they can be who they are.”

“And they will be welcomed here,” the CEO continued:

The argument that I make with the people that say, “Well, I always liked Boy Scouts of America or BSA, why do we have to change?”

Membership is at historic lows. Part of my job is to reduce all the barriers I possibly can for people to accept us as an organization and to join.

AP indicated that BSA “won’t officially become Scouting America until Feb. 8, 2025, the organization’s 115th birthday.”

“But Krone said he expects people will start immediately using the name,” AP’s report added:

The organization steeped in tradition has made seismic changes after decades of turmoil, from finally allowing gay youth [in 2013] to welcoming girls throughout its ranks [in 2018].

Actor Matthew Marsden responded to the news on X (formerly Twitter), writing: “Once again, wokeness ruins everything.”

“This organization helped equip young boys with the skills to become real men and this move is another attack on them. They will be financially bankrupt in ten years,” Marsden wrote.

He added that he pulled his own son out of BSA back when it first began to allow girls.

Political commentator Isabella Maria DeLuca agreed, writing: “[Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)] ruins everything.”

Conservative attorney Jenna Ellis stated on X: “Dear [Boy Scouts] … no one asked for this.”

Radio hostess Dana Loesch pointed out the apparent irony of the Boy Scouts becoming more “inclusive” to prospective female members.

“They have Girl Scouts,” she wrote.
