WASHINGTON, DC – The line of Democrats hoping to defeat President Donald Trump in 2020 keeps growing, but the variety of faces does not mean a variety of positions on the abortion issue.

So far, every single Democrat who has announced a presidential campaign is pro-abortion.

“As the party moves further to the left on abortion, pushing for fewer restrictions and more public funding, it has become almost unthinkable for a pro-life Democrats to make a national run,” the Washington Examiner reports.

Big-name contenders U.S. Sens. Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, Kirsten Gillibrand and U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard all have pro-abortion voting records and past endorsements from pro-abortion groups including Emily’s List, NARAL and Planned Parenthood. Other possible contenders, former Vice President Joe Biden and U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, also support abortion on demand.

None of the candidates are even moderate on the abortion issue. Booker, for example, has a 100-percent pro-abortion voting record, and Harris is the prosecutor who went after David Daleiden and the Center for Medical Progress for exposing Planned Parenthood’s potentially illegal baby body parts trade.

While polls consistently show that a majority of Democrats support abortion restrictions, Democrat politicians do not. In the past few years, they have voted against bills to protect infants born alive after botched abortions, to defund the abortion giant Planned Parenthood and to prohibit late-term abortions on pain-capable unborn babies.

The candidates’ positions do not represent voters, but they do support the Democratic Party platform, which calls for legalized abortion without restriction and taxpayer-funded elective abortions.

“The abortion industry is running the [Democratic Party],” Carol Tobias, president of the National Right to Life Committee, told the Examiner. “There is a significant bloc of pro-life Democrats that are just being totally ignored by the national party and, of course, now its presidential candidates.”

Kristen Day, executive director of Democrats for Life, told the Examiner much the same thing:

A number of others started out pro-life but adopted pro-choice stances in time to run for the Democratic nomination. Among them are former Vice Presidents Al Gore and Joseph R. Biden, former Rep. Richard Gephardt and the Rev. Jesse Jackson.

“They change their position because they know the abortion lobby has a stranglehold on their party,” Ms. Day said. “The reality of the Democratic Party is that it has gone pretty far left on this issue.”

Democrats for Life estimates more than 23 million Democrats in the U.S. are pro-life. Pew Research found that 28 percent of Democrats say abortion should be illegal in most or all cases. Marist/KofC polling also found that 23 percent of Democrats consider themselves pro-life and 40 percent say abortion is morally wrong.

However, in the past few years, Democrat Party leaders have been sending a message that pro-lifers are not welcome. In August, abortion activists pressured the Missouri Democratic Party to reject a platform amendment that welcomed a “diversity of views on abortion.” Some of the last pro-life Democrat politicians also are being targeted by progressive political groups.

Many voters have left the Democratic Party because it has stopped supporting pro-life laws and politicians who advocate for life. Last year, a Massachusetts mayor even publicly announced his decision to leave, disgusted by the party’s demand that unborn babies be sacrificed and their deaths celebrated.
