But this week, Catholic Charities announced that it laid off 26 staff members due to “loss of funding” and put its Refugee Resettlement Program on an “indefinite pause on the services,” becoming the latest faith-based organization to report layoffs after a Trump administration order suspended federal funding for resettlement agencies last month.
“An examination of circumstances beyond its control precipitated the difficult decision reached by the organization,” said Jeff Gulde, executive director of the Catholic Charities of the Texas Panhandle, per reporting by KFDA News Channel 10 based in Amarillo.
