“Gosnell: The Trial of America’s Biggest Serial Killer,” took in the 12th highest box office receipt total in its opening weekend, breaking into the top 10 on Sunday.
“Gosnell,” a drama about convicted murder and abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell, ranked 12th over the three-day period, despite appearing in only 671 theaters nationally, Box Office Mojo reports:
“Rounding out the top twelve is GVN’s moderate release of Gosnell: The Trial of America’s Biggest Serial Killer into 673 locations, debuting with an estimated $1.2 million.”
On Sunday, the film hit number 10, drawing $425,516 for the day despite being one of only two movies in the top 10 showing in fewer than 2,700 theaters. In all, “Gosnell” took in $1,235,800 in its first weekend.
“Gosnell” was a hit with moviegoers, earning an average user rating of 4.9 out of 5 – and 99% of viewers rating the film 3.5 stars or higher – on the popular move review website Rotten Tomatoes.
The pro-like film tells the story of abortionist Kermit Gosnell, who performed illegal abortions and who killed three born-alive infants. He is currrently serving three life sentences in prison.
