WASHINGTON, DC – President-elect Donald Trump picked another pro-life leader to join his administration today, choosing pro-life Mick Mulvaney as his new Chief of Staff.

Trump chose U.S. Rep. Mick Mulvaney of South Carolina to head the Office of Management and Budget early on in his administration and elevated him to the top White House position today.

In a pair of tweets Friday afternoon, Trump announced Mulvaney, 51, a former South Carolina congressman, to the post in an acting capacity. It was unclear whether Mulvaney’s appointment was a just temporary measure pending another person being picked for the role.

The choice upset abortion advocates, who quickly drew attention to Mulvaney’s efforts to defund the abortion business Planned Parenthood.

Mulvaney has a 100-percent pro-life voting record from the National Right to Life Committee. On his website, he says he is “committed to promoting legislation that will protect the unborn.”

The pro-abortion blog Rewire reports Mulvaney is a founding member of the House Freedom Caucus, which recently released a list of priorities for Trump’s first 100 days in office. One priority was to revoke President Barack Obama’s new rule that essentially prohibits states from defunding Planned ParenthoodTrump eventually signed that this year.

In 2015, Mulvaney also joined 30 other Republicans in committing to opposing any legislation to fund the federal government unless it defunded the Planned Parenthood abortion business.

Planned Parenthood, which aborts about 320,000 unborn babies a year, received about $550 million in taxpayer dollars last year. Federal lawmakers made several attempts to defund the abortion giant in the past few years, but President Obama vetoed the legislation.

Mulvaney also has spoken out against Obamacare’s HHS mandate. Back in 2012, he joined more than 50 other members of Congress to oppose the mandate, which forces religious employers to pay for insurance coverage including birth control and drugs that may cause abortions.

He also was involved in a 2015 Congressional hearing with Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards. The hearing concerned the undercover investigation by the Center for Medical Progress showing the abortion chain trafficking aborted baby body parts. Mulvaney asked Richards what should be done if a baby survives an abortion. Richards responded that she had never heard of such a thing happening.
