Michael Champagne’s Fête-Dieu du Mississippi (Aug. 14-15, Baton Rouge to New Orleans) – Brown Pelican Society of Lousiana
Fr. Michael Champagne, CJC , Founder of Fête-Dieu du Teche, an LLC for the New Evangelization
As you may know, Fr. Michael Champagne has a flotilla boat procession each year on the Teche River. This year, however, Fr. Champagne is extending the event to a two-day celebration on the Mississippi River beginning on Wednesday morning, August 14, 2024, with a Holy Mass at St. Joseph Cathedral in Baton Rouge with Bishop Michael Duca and ending on the following day, the Feast of the Assumption, August 15th at a closing Mass and Benediction at 6:00 pm at St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans celebrated by Archbishop Gregory Aymond.
Fr. Champagne’s group has a wonderful website at www.fetedieuduteche.org, which contains details of (a) the schedule, (b) how to participate, (c) how to sign up for all night Adoration, (d) how to purchase t-shirts, (e) how to ride on the Natchez River Boat during the final leg of the procession on the afternoon of August 15th, and (f) many other useful tips regarding this event.
The website encourages Church Parishes and Church Groups to charter buses and soon will provide details on parking information.
In order to make sure everyone can see the Monstrance on the River Boat traveling down the Mississippi River, Fr. Champagne commissioned the construction of a 15-foot tall Monstrance that will hold a Eucharist with a 14 ½ inch circumference which shall stand on the top of the tugboat that will travel down the Mississippi River.
You can see pictures of the construction of the Monstrance on Facebook.
Please make every effort to participate in this Celebration and to encourage family members and friends to join in on this unique opportunity which is a first of its kind. All eyes from around the nation will be focused on Louisiana for this event.
