Pro-lifers are pleased that a couple of bills have been submitted to save the lives of the preborn and to prevent taxpayers from covering the life-ending procedure. But they fully expect the left to fight the effort.

Congressman Chris Smith (R-NJ) first introduced the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (H.R. 1080) knowing the science shows a preborn baby can feel pain at 20 weeks, and likely much sooner.

If the measure is passed, abortion would be banned at that point, so Carol Tobias of the National Right to Life Committee expects opposition from the Democrats to be fierce.

“If you try stopping the abortion, even at roughly halfway through pregnancy for a humane reason, because those babies are feeling the pain when their lives are being snuffed out, they still oppose this,” Tobias laments. …
