PA Fights Nuns, Just Doesn’t Want Them in Courtroom

Catholic nuns continue to crisscross the country to fight Obamacare’s controversial birth control mandate.

Little Sisters of the Poor will be in Pennsylvania today, Dec. 14, to observe that state’s attempt to reverse an exemption by the Trump administration.

OneNewsNow reported in a Dec. 7 story that California and Pennsylvania are suing the Trump administration after it reversed an exemption that offered relief to the Catholic charity and other religious organization that fought the mandate.

Not only has Pennsylvania’s attorney general filed a lawsuit to reverse that action, Becket attorney Mark Rienzi says Pennsylvania successfully won a court order keeping the Little Sisters from joining the case to defend their rights.

“This is an unnecessary culture war that the last administration picked, and people of good will on all sides should be happy that it’s nearing its end,” Rienzi said in a recent press call. “Unfortunately, some people don’t want to let go of the past, in particular, Pennsylvania’s attorney general, Josh Shapiro.”

A similar hearing took place on Tuesday in Oakland, California, where Attorney General Xavier Becerra filed a similar lawsuit seeking to have the exemption reversed.

“It is very difficult to believe that their voters want them spending taxpayer dollars attacking nuns,” Rienzi said, “particularly nuns who care for the elderly poor for free in their states.”

The attorneys general of Pennsylvania and California did not respond to OneNewsNow’s request for comment.
