The violence filling American streets since the killing of George Floyd – resulting in the destruction of minority-owned businesses in some locales – is presenting an unprecedented challenge to law enforcement.
Cities across the U.S. are in flames as riots continue in the wake of the killing of George Floyd, a handcuffed black man who pleaded for air as a white Minneapolis police officer pressed his knee against Floyd’s neck for several minutes. In the aftermath, at least 40 cities, including the nation’s capital, have declared curfews to try and quell the growing unrest – with only moderate success. In some cities, the violence has gotten so bad that the National Guard has been called in to help police attempt to restore order.
“This is a level of violence and anarchy that we’ve never seen in history for this country and for the challenges facing law enforcement,” says The Wounded Blue‘s Randy Sutton, a highly-decorated former police officer. “It’s never been more dangerous. It’s never been more threatening.” …
